Conservatorship involves the filing of a Petition with the Probate Court to become the conservator over another individual’s financial resources where the Proposed Ward lacks sufficient capacity to make or communicate responsible decisions concerning management of his or her property. Therefore, a person is petitioning to be responsible for another’s financial responsibilities including paying bills and maintaining accounts.
The process from the time of filing a Petition to the actual appointment of a Permanent Conservator is about eight weeks. During that time, if a more imminent need arises to the level of an emergency, a Petition for Emergency Conservatorship may be filed.
